About Dr. De Barry

Dr. Lance De Barry is an Obstetrics & Gynaecology trainee with a particular focus on gynaecologic oncology and minimally invasive surgery. He earned his Bachelor of Medical Sciences and his medical degree (MBBS) from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, graduating with distinction in both, having been awarded a national scholarship by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago. He completed his medical internship at San Fernando General Hospital, where he continues to train as a House Officer in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.

Dr. De Barry has developed considerable experience in gynaecologic oncology and complex surgical practice, training alongside a leading gynaecologic oncologist. He has participated in more than 500 benign and oncologic gynaecological procedures and continues to refine his expertise across both open and laparoscopic approaches.

His professional examinations reflect this trajectory: he passed the Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (MRCOG) Part 1 at first attempt and the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1, and progressed through the MRCOG Part 2 whilst concurrently completing an MBA in Hospital and Health Services Management at the University of Bedfordshire — a combination that reflects both his clinical commitment and a broader interest in healthcare leadership, service delivery and quality improvement.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr. De Barry is an active and widely published researcher, with more than 25 peer-reviewed articles in PubMed-indexed journals spanning general gynaecology and gynaecologic oncology. His scholarly contributions extend to editorial service: he sits on the editorial board of Women's Health (SAGE Publishing), holds an Associate Editor position at Cureus, and has served as Lead Guest Editor for a special collection on collaborative approaches to morbidity and outcomes in gynaecologic cancer surgery. He has been named on the BMJ Case Reports Annual Reviewer List for 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025, and reviews regularly for several international journals.

Committed to education and knowledge-sharing, Dr. De Barry has delivered grand rounds presentations and departmental audits across a range of obstetric and gynaecological topics, presented his research at national medical conferences, and mentored medical students in anatomy, pathology and clinical examination. He also produces educational material on gynaecological surgery and patient-oriented content in support of cancer awareness in the Caribbean.

Beyond medicine, Dr. De Barry enjoys time with his wife and their two dogs, Sophie and Emma, and maintains active interests in reading, swimming, hiking and travel.
